Resistance Welding of Balancing Weights
Automatic balancing machines are applied for attaching balancing weights in the form of sheet strips by means of spot welding on, for example, torque converters or turbine wheels. The length of the balancing strips and thus the necessary number of welding spots varies with the required balancing weight. The demands on a steady welding spot quality are, in this case, particularly high as the function of the component depends on the reliability of the spot-welded joint.
If the balancing strips are welded with several welding spots, the welding conditions are changing after the first welding spot and they are changing considerably with every following welding spot - this is due to the special arrangement of the electrodes. The adaptive MASTER control method guarantees a steady quality of the spot-welded joint despite the constantly varying process conditions.
If balancing weights are welded onto thin-walled components and if the backing electrode cannot be arranged underneath the welding point, the use of balancing plates with embossed projections is recommended.
